Spring is a great time to soak in all the newness and wonders of nature and create learning opportunities for kids to do some hands-on learning.

There’s a little bit of everything in this list, from outdoor play to yummy spring treats and fun diy crafts to fit different interests and age groups. Outdoor Spring Activities:
What better way to start off this season than with some fun-filled outdoor spring activities? This past year families have spent A LOT of time staying at home so here are some fun ideas to get your kids outside to soak up some vitamin D!
Gardening activities in the backyard
Hands-on gardening is a great learning experience for children to learn about different fruits, vegetables and plants. They can explore the life cycle of a plant and get their hands dirty for some sensory fun.
Kids Gardening is a non-organization dedicated to educating kids on learning and playing through gardening and they have a plethora of garden activities from DIY hydroponics to creating compost with worms!
No backyard? No worries--try making this pizza garden with potted plants of your favorite herbs and veggies and your kids can take part in the process of growing their favorite pizza ingredients. When your plants have ripened, they can pick the ingredients and help build homemade pizzas with the whole family.
Go on a nature scavenger hunt
So much is going on outside when spring rolls in. In our neighborhood, we see bees buzzing about flower bushes, birds chirping in every tree, flowers blooming and baby rabbits hopping about. Letting kids explore outside this time of year with a scavenger hunt is an interactive way to peak their curiosities of the wonders of nature. If you have a child who loves bugs and insects you can also incorporate a bug scavenger hunt for extra exploration and getting little hands dirty with a little digging in the dirt!
Drawing sidewalk chalk art
A personal favorite activity for my daughter who loves drawing is chalk art. The great thing about this activity is letting kids be creative in making whatever designs that pleases them. But of course, I have a large list of creative chalk art activities that go beyond just doodling on the ground if you’re looking for something outside the box.
For a beautiful chalk art piece that even your littlest ones can participate in is making a mosaic chalk art piece (also known as stained glass chalk art). The best part is the process is way easier than it looks and the outcome is worth keeping on the sidewalk or driveway for as long as you’d like! This quick chalk art video tutorial will help get you started.
Indoor Spring Activities:
If you live in a colder climate where you’re still waiting for the snow to melt outside or you still have little ones crawling around, staying indoors could be more convenient for you! Some things are also better done inside, like these spring art and craft activities.
Spring educational projects
Learning about nature doesn’t all have to take place outdoors. These 16 spring learning projects are perfect for curious kids who wonder how plants soak up water or love to do mini science experiments and math activities at home. They’re all spring themed projects and can be disguised as a fun craft.
Spring arts & crafts
The beautiful colors that spring brings is the perfect opportunity to incorporate lots of beautiful arts and crafts in the home. When researching for spring craft activities, the options are quite endless. So, I’ve chosen a few crafts that could peak different skill levels and interests. However, if you love variety and endless options, here is an epic list of over 100 different spring arts and crafts. Seriously, anything spring related you can think of is included in this list. It’s definitely one to bookmark and come back to for more ideas in the future when you’re looking for ideas.
This hydrangea bubble paint activity creates a stunning art piece and is one that I am eyeing to do with my daughter. All you need is some paint, dish soap and a straw to blow bubbles that resemble these beautiful flowers! This could also be a great mother’s day gift for kids and most of these materials can be found at home.
It isn’t spring if we don’t include some rainbows! This rainbow weave craft helps kids work on their fine-motor skills with some colored yarn, a paper plate and some paint. It’s easy to prepare and a great time-busting activity as your child carefully weaves over and under to create a beautiful rainbow weave.
DIY seed bombs are a fun little activity to do as a pre-step to planting seeds in a garden or to pack as little gifts for friends, family or neighbors. These colorful seed bombs are made from colored paper pulp (made with water and a blender) and a few seeds of your choice! You can get kids involved by picking the type of seeds they want to grow at your local garden store and get creative with different shaped silicone molds/ice cube trays.
Spring themed snacks and treats
What parent doesn’t love a good snack idea? These springtime recipes are not only adorable, but can serve as a great hack to incorporate all the fruits and veggies that are in season.
Get kids involved with helping out in the kitchen! They can get creative and come up with their own spring themed snacks or meals as they help you prep. If your child is still a little young to be handling cutlery, invest in a pair of child safe kitchen knives that are made out of nylon. You can also have them cut out their favorite shapes with these little vegetable cutter sets. There are tons of choices of child-safe kitchenware you can pick from, I just chose a few that were popular on Amazon.com.
